This reel is one of the most sought after salmon models of all the Bogdan salmon fly reels because of it's size for a 10 weight fly line and about 175 yards of 20 pound micron backing, and is a 2:1 multiplier (meaning it retrieves 2 times for every one turn of the crank handle)and amply large enough to easily handle and master even the most substantial fish, in addition to having an adjustable flawless drag system (with 11 settings) that money can buy. #B30

The reel is a very rare model as very few were ever made, which were special ordered.

A Bogdan salmon reel is one of the finest ever made, the very best that money could have bought, and are no longer produced today by Stan Bogdan (see obituary at the end of this)as he has passed we hope to a better place. Amen.

This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of salmon fishing history. Please read a Bogdan obituary at the end of this listing to learn more about the person who changed the way the world fished for salmon and trout, being the maker of the best reel that money could buy.

The reel is about 1994 vintage.

For that fisher person who thinks he has it all, this is the rarest and best fly reel money can buy! This is a very rare reel as only a handful of these multiplier fly reels were made because all of the internal gears had to be hand made and the springs tested and adjusted to a certain tension which we began to appreciate that such was a very difficult task.

Stanley E. Bogdan (December 16, 1918 – March 27, 2011) was the founder of S.E. Custom Built, a company dedicated to the handmade construction of fly reels. Bogdan was born in Nashua, NH and lived their throughout his entire life.[ He became interested in fly fishing at an early age when he began receiving outdated copies of a hunting and fishing magazine from a local sports retailer. At age 13, Bogdan was tying his own flies and would then become immersed in the sport. Upon graduating high school, Bogdan began work at Rollins Engine Company, a local engines manufacturer in Nashua. Later on, while working as a machinist, he began constructing some of the first prototypes for his reels. Stanley Bogdan died on March 27, 2011. His wife Phyllis died in 1995. S.E. Custom Built fly reels are primarily known for their ability to greatly reduce drag. This is mostly attributed to Bogdan's unique concept of the double-break shoe, known as the hallmark of any Bogdan reel. The company is mostly focused on the production of salmon reels, however there have been a few trout reel models made.
